Last Minute Summer Fundays!

August is heating up in Palestine, Texas offering a experience for everyone in the family.  So load up the family and enjoy the last few weeks of summer with a few of the exciting events happening.

For the Family: Four notes and two finger snaps—an iconic theme song to accompany a sitcom about an iconic family, "The Addams Family." Debuting on Thursday, July 28th, the show runs for two consecutive weekends through August 7th. Curtain on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays is 7:30 PM and on Sundays at 2:00 PM.

Tickets, which are $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4 to 18, can be purchased locally at Palestine Chamber of Commerce, Palestine Visitor Center, Blake Furniture, Discount Pools, and Dogwood Diner, and online at www.outhousetickets.com. Tickets can also be reserved by visiting our website, www.thetexastheater.com, and completing the Will Call form.

For the Family: 4th Annual Teddy Bear's Train Ride will depart from the Rusk Depot loaded with children bringing their teddy bears in hand ready to ride the Official Railroad of Texas on August 5th.
Trains depart at 11am, 2:30pm and 4:30pm. All children ages 12 and under who bring their teddy bear with them to ride, will get to ride for free. For more information, go to www.TexasStateRR.com or follow the Texas State Railroad on Facebook. Tickets can be booked online or by calling 903-683-3098.

For the Adventurer: Boats will launch starting at 8:00 am on August 6th for the 23rd Annual Neches Wilderness Canoe Race with canoeists and kayakers, young and old, experts and beginners!  Ed Furman, former director of the race, says "Neches' is one of the toughest flatwater races in the state. Lots of obstacles-no current." In other words lots of fallen trees and stumps and being in the low water typical of late summer. The kind of conditions that appeal to a cross cut of paddling types. Plenty of challenge without the hazards associated with the fast moving river. Conditions that act as an equalizer to the race field, taking away some of the advantage of hull designs and handing it the resourceful. Online registration for the race closes on July 31st.
"There is absolutely nothing like Neches from the venue and unpredictability of it to the people that put it on." says Erin McGee, a U.S World Cup Kayaker and regular race entrant. For more information visit www.necheswildernessrace.com.
